Are Luxury Watches A Waste Of Money?

Buying a luxury watch and wearing it out can provide plenty of upsides like a boost of confidence or a significant improvement in your style. However, when it comes to actually purchasing one, many of the luxury watches on the market today can run a pretty penny, which can make us wonder if luxury watches are a complete waste of money or not.

Buying a luxury watch is a waste of money if you are trying to impress others or seek validation from those around you. A luxury watches are a great investment if it genuinely makes you happy and puts a real smile on your face.

In the rest of the post, I will be taking a deeper dive explaining when buying a luxury watch is a complete waste of money or when it is worth buying, and I will also share a story with you about some of my experiences with wasting money and how I eventually got over the bad habit.

When Is Buying A Luxury Watch A Waste Of Money?

The majority of people who buy and wear luxury watches try to impress others around them, which can make the watch be a waste of money. If your sole purpose in buying a luxury watch is to impress others around you, it can lead to unhappiness and regret. Because at the end of the day when everything is said and done, most of the people you are trying to impress simply do not care that you are trying to impress them or completely forget about the watch on your wrist.

And if the people you are trying to impress do not care about the watch on your wrist, you’re inevitably going to be sad inside because the people you are trying to seek validation from are not giving you the attention that you crave. If buying a luxury watch will not put a real smile on your face or does not make you truly happy inside, then not buying it or maybe looking at a more affordable alternative would be a great idea.

If you buy a luxury timepiece and it is not providing you any value or making you joyful, then it is frankly a waste of money. If you buy a luxury watch and it is not making you happy, really take a step back and ask yourself, “Does this watch genuinely make me happy and fulfilled on the inside, or did I buy it to impress others?” If you picked the second answer, then it is a good indicator that buying that luxury watch was a complete waste of money because it doesn’t make you truly happy.

When Is Buying A Luxury Watch a Good Investment or Worth Buying?

Buying a luxury watch can be a good investment and worth buying if you appreciate the craftsmanship put into the watch and if it puts a bona fide smile on your face. If you are looking at a specific luxury watch and it really makes you happy and you genuinely appreciate the time and effort put into the craftsmanship, then buying it is a great idea because it’s providing a significant amount of value to you.

All others really want is for you to be genuinely happy. If buying luxury watches and wearing them when you can actually bring joy into your life, then buying the watch is not a waste of money at all and can actually be a good investment for you.

By being yourself and being genuinely happy with a luxury watch, others will naturally gravitate toward you because happiness is appealing and attractive. Not only will being happy with wearing a watch naturally gravitate others toward you, but it will inspire others to find their joy in life and your happiness will actually rub off onto others.

My Experience With Wasting Money

When I was younger and growing up, I was definitely a people pleaser. I remember being so into shoes, clothes, and fashion only because I wanted my classmates or others around me to notice me. Because of this, I would save up my money and then blow it all on Air Jordans, Yeezys, and expensive clothes so I can wear them out and see the looks on everyone’s face when I wore them.

But, as I kept wearing these clothes and items out, I took a step back and really evaluated myself, and I recognized that I was insecure and just wearing all of these nice things to please others. I slowly noticed that the majority of people and the important people around me did not care that I was trying to impress them and it ate me alive because attention was all I was craving for, and I didn’t really get any of it.

I wanted others to notice me because I was still insecure about myself and wanted to mask that insecurity with things that didn’t really make me happy, which made me waste money.

Then as I got older, I learned that the only true way to be recognized, appreciated, and a better person is to find myself and what makes me really happy. I had to truly get rid of my insecurities, find what really makes me fulfilled inside, and stay true to myself, which has brought me immense joy!

I really felt this emotion when I got my first luxury watch. My parents gifted me one of my watches, a Panerai Luminor. When they opened the box, my face lit up and I felt a warm, fuzzy feeling in my chest, and I couldn’t stop smiling. I really appreciated the craftsmanship of the watch, and from that day forward I knew that luxury watches genuinely made me happy, which makes it completely worth it and not a waste of money at all.

The Key Take-Away

Buying a luxury watch can absolutely be a great purchase if it genuinely makes you happy inside, gives you a confidence boost, and really makes you appreciate the craftsmanship and effort put into a watch. Buying a luxury watch can be a complete waste of money if your sole purpose is to impress others around you: at the end of the day, people only care if you are actually a happy person.

If buying a luxury watch can provide you that genuine joy just how luxury watches provide happiness for me, then it can actually be a great purchase and not a waste of money.
