If you’re a watch collector, you’re probably familiar with Jaeger LeCoultre watches. You might have even considered investing in one of these luxury timepieces, but are unsure if it’s worth it. One common question people ask when they consider this brand is, “Do Jaeger LeCoultre watches hold their value?” The answer I found to this question is complicated, but ultimately the answer is yes.

Generally, Jaeger LeCoultre watches hold their value and some of their most popular models increase in price over time. JLC retains its value well because the brand is known for its high quality, design, and uniqueness. Their low production numbers increases their exclusivity.

As I’ve grown my passion for watches, I have started to become a huge fan of JLC because of how influential they are to the watch industry, which has made me look into their brand even more. Read on to view the full article on why JLC watches hold their value.

Do JLC Watches Retain Their Value Or Increase In Value?

If you’re a watch enthusiast like me, you’ve probably heard of Jaeger LeCoultre—the luxury Swiss watch brand that’s been known for its classic, vintage-inspired timepieces and complicated movement mechanisms since 1833.

Jaeger LeCoultre watches are known as solid investments: they maintain their status as classics over time and have a long history of turning over impressive resale numbers.

There are many factors that influence whether or not a watch holds its value. One of the most obvious and important things to consider when you want to buy an expensive watch is whether or not the brand has a reputation for creating reliable timepieces. In other words, will the watch run well over a long period of time?

If the answer to this question is no, then you should avoid buying from that brand because no matter how much you paid for it, the watch will lose value as soon as it stops working. Jaeger LeCoultre is famous for making reliable watches so if you buy one from this brand and then decide to sell it later, chances are high that you’ll be able to sell it for at least as much as what you paid for it.

There’s no guarantee that any watch will hold or increase in value (unless you buy it new, don’t wear it, and keep it in a box until you sell it) but because of the unique nature of the brand and its strong following, Jaeger LeCoultre watches have proven to be solid investments for collectors and enthusiasts everywhere.

However, it’s important not to confuse “holding their value” with “going up in value.” While these brands produce amazing pieces that stay relevant for decades or even centuries, they don’t usually appreciate greatly in price—with one exception being popular models or rare editions.

Depending on the kind of watch you get, you can expect to see an increase in its value over time—sometimes a considerable one. For example, a Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph that retailed for $9,600 in 2018 is now worth somewhere around $15,000!

Which JLC Watches Increase In Value?

Generally, JLC watches tend to hold their value and the most popular and sought-after watch models increase in value over time.

To calculate just how much these JLC watches have increased in value over time, I collected data from watchcharts.com, which is one of the most reputable sites that tracks the market value of over 25,000 watch listings.

Let’s go over some of the best JLC watch models that have increased in value over the years.

Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso

The Reverso is hands down JLC’s most popular and well-known watch. This specific timepiece has become a staple for the Jaeger LeCoultre brand since it’s uniqueness of a reversible case makes it stand out above other timepieces. When you think of JLC, the Reverso is the first watch that comes to mind.

In over just a span of 180 days, the Reverso has increased in value by about 3%: from an average around $7,820 to almost $7,900.

The Reverso’s increased popularity, high-quality craftsmanship, and limited supply are the main factors that have caused its price to go up.

Jaeger LeCoultre Master

The JLC Master is by far their most classy and versatile timepiece in their collection. The Master collection is the 2nd most popular right behind the Reverso, and it comes in a wide range of designs such as perpetual calendars, moonphases, chronographs, dualmatic GMT, and much more.

Over a span of 180 days, the JLC Master collection’s average price has increased by around 4 percent: from $8,400 to $8,560.

Similar to the Reverso, the Master’s prestine craftsmanship, popularity, and versatility makes it one of the most sought-after JLC watches, which has increased its value.

Jaeger LeCoultre Polaris

The JLC Polaris is their most simplistic and traditional watch, and it’s the 3rd most popular Jaeger LeCoultre watch collection. The Polaris, in my personal opinion, is one of the most underrated chronograph timepieces on the market due to its overlooked automatic movement.

The JLC Polaris collection’s average price has increased over the last six months by around 1 percent: from $8,650 to $8,710.

As you can see from that statistics above, sought-after JLC watches have outstanding potential to not only retain their value, but increase their value over time.

Conclusion

Jaeger LeCoultre watches retain their value, and popular JLC watches like the Reverso, Master, and Polaris Chronograph have increased in value over time due to a limited supply. JLC is a highly respected watch brand because of their attention to detail, quality, and craftsmanship.
