While owning and wearing a luxury watch during the day provides plenty of benefits, storing it safely at night should be a primary priority, to say the least. Getting your luxury watch stolen or damaged at night just because you weren’t storing it correctly can be one of the worst things that can happen to you.
As a general rule, it’s ideal to store a timepiece in a locked safe when storing a watch at night. A secured safe provides the best overall protection for a watch, but I also found that using a unique hiding spot and wearing it at night are alternative ways after testing.
Through the rest of the post, I will be providing my personal experiences with all three methods with my tips when using them, and why they are the best means of storing your luxury watch at night.
Why is Storing A Luxury Watch At Night So Important?
Storing a luxury watch at night is significant because it prevents your watch from getting stolen or damaged when you go to bed. One of the most common times luxury watches get stolen or broken is at night. Waking up and realizing that your luxury watch is missing or damaged can be one of the worst feelings in the world and it could absolutely ruin your day, week, year, or even life.
The hundreds or thousands of dollars that you spent buying and servicing the watch would just be wasted. Going out of the way and taking the extra precaution to store your luxury watch properly can save you thousands of dollars and the headache of worrying about your watch at night.
Storing a luxury watch in a safe, hiding your watch in a unique location only you know about, and wearing the watch at night are the three best ways to store your luxury watch at night. Not only have these methods worked for me consistently, but I still use them every day to help me keep a peace of mind at night. I am going to share with you my examples and what I do so that I can help you find the best way for you to store your luxury watch at night.
Storing A Luxury Watch In a Secure Safe
Investing in a reliable and sturdy safe is hands down one of the best decisions you can make for storing your luxury watch at night and is definitely the best way to store your luxury watch when you go off to bed. Most modern safes are equipped with a number pad on the front and made out of thick metals, making it really hard for thieves to get into the safe if they don’t know the passcode.
The picture above is the exact spot in the safe I store one of my favorite luxury watches I own, a Breitling Wings watch, at night when I go off to bed. Not only is the safe durable, but it’s also super heavy, which makes it very difficult to carry for those trying to steal the safe.
Because of all the security features and overall reliability a safe provides, keeping a luxury watch in a safe is the most ideal and practical place to store your luxury watch while you go off to bed. For me, I feel the safest when my luxury watch is carefully placed in my safe, which makes it my favorite and the smartest method to use in my opinion.
Hiding A Luxury Watch In A Unique Spot
Picking a hiding spot for your luxury watch and placing it in its original box is a fantastic way to store your luxury watch when you go to sleep. The absolute best part about making a hiding spot for your luxury watch is that you and only you will know where it is, plus it’s much more affordable than buying a safe.
With this specific method, you can save money and time just by picking a clever hiding spot that nobody else knows about. You may be wondering, “Why keep it in the original box”? Keeping a luxury watch in its original box protects it from potentially getting damaged. For example, you may have a hiding spot where you place the watch on a shelf near a ledge, and it can fall over and break, but if you put it in the box, your watch won’t take the hit.
The picture above is an example of my hiding spot for storing my luxury watch, a Panerai Luminor, at night. I put it on the top shelf on my bedside right behind one of my favorite paintings my girlfriend made for me.
The reason I put it at the top of the shelf is that it’s much harder to reach from the floor of my room and it is not visible behind the painting. Only I know where this hiding spot is, and not even my family or best friends knows about where I hide the watch.
Wearing A Luxury Watch While You Sleep
Wearing a luxury watch while going to sleep is a way to keep your luxury watch safe at night when you go to bed; however, it is my least favorite way and I personally recommend the other ways because it can lead to long-term wear and tear of your timepiece.
The only reason why it’s safe when you wear it at night is that it’s on your person: if you are sleeping and someone is trying to take or steal the watch off of your wrist, you are likely to wake up and catch them in the process of stealing it.
For example, one night I went out with my friends to dinner and I stayed the night at one of their houses. Since I did not want to run the risk of getting my luxury watch stolen or damaged(even though I do trust and love my friends), I wore it on my wrist as I went to sleep because there was nowhere else safe to place the watch. When I woke up the next morning, the watch was exactly the same as when I went to bed with it and I was content with wearing it at night, but it did feel slightly uncomfortable when I did wear it.
No matter which method you choose to use when storing your luxury watch at night, going out of your way to implement at least one of these methods is a great way to keep yourself at peace when you go off to bed.
